With the fast irresolute technology we utilize everyday every bit function of our jobs as accountants its important to be able to adapt. Accounting is a peachy major and a very valuable background for someone entering the concern earth. I would too suggest that you round out your cognition base with other areas to support and supplement your skill prepare. Engineering science plays a huge part in today's business world as companies look for new means to automate many processes. I would propose that you lot take many different types of classes including computer science, project management, finance, data analysis and audit just to name a few. College courses will teach you lot a lot of basic knowledge but yous must also seek out opportunities to improve your critical thinking, business organisation apprehending, acquire how to deal with ambiguity and improve your advice skills.

Absolutely agree with the prior responses on Accounting being a great major. Whether yous do accounting throughout your work career or employ it as your entry level career, you tin can't get wrong. Choose your pocket-size based on areas that interest yous - police/government, economics, general concern admin.. These interests may help guide you in a detail field and being passionate and engaged in the work you choose to do is very important to your long-term success.

How-do-you-do,
Good question, if yous are interested in business concern I would suggest business concern assistants or management or mayhap something computer related if that interests you.
If you have specific interest or career goals...perhaps working in government or public accounting, you lot might consider public assistants or political science.
Good luck...accounting is a good career choice! :)

A major in Bookkeeping opens upwards many doors for you, and in that location are many minors that tin can volition complement this major. As others accept mentioned, definitely choose something that interests you or you are passionate nearly. This will make taking courses in your pocket-sized field of study much more enjoyable and worthwhile. Personally, I attended Bryant University which has a unique curriculum where students who major in the Business school must minor in Arts & Sciences (and vice versa). Therefore, when I majored in Accounting, I chose to minor in Legal Studies. Some of the benefits I have establish with a modest in legal studies is that portions of the REG CPA exam were already familiar to me. REG incorporates a neat deal of legal concepts, tax police, etc. which I found my courses prepared me for. Additionally, business police courses and having experience reading legal documents (usually with difficult jargon) can be very beneficial. Hope this helps!

Accounting is a bully major, whether or not yous choose to practise it. You might consider taking a few finance classes, a nice complement. I would also encourage you to accept as many statistics and data analysis / analytics classes equally possible. Building a toolkit of quantitative, analytical skills will serve you lot well in just virtually whatsoever career. I'm personally not convinced that a minor in a subject makes much of a deviation. when recruiting, I look for someone that is balanced and intellectually curious. To that end, accept classes in departments that yous wouldn't usually consider ... take a dance course, take a philosophy class, take a psychology grade. I'thousand biased toward psychology but there are and then many other areas of study that will take you outside your comfort zone and challenge you to think differently.

My major was Finance with Economics and Accounting concentrations. I later completed an executive MBA. I believe that Finance is a good gratis minor for a person with an Accounting major. If you actually like Bookkeeping I think you will probable enjoy the Finance classes. In my experience, people that innately understood Bookkeeping had difficulty with Economic science and vice versa. As an undergrad I certainly understood Economic concepts much meliorate than I could memorize Bookkeeping rules. However, subsequently years working in banking the Accounting classes during my MBA were of a sudden piece of cake.

Accounting is a groovy selection for an undergraduate major! No matter where you end upwardly in your career, having a foundational knowledge in accounting will enable you to make sound business decisions in any visitor (and industry). I would recommend pairing an accounting major with a business organization analytics minor if your university offers this type of minor. In this technological earth we are living in, there is a lot of data at your fingertips and knowing how to get together and clarify this data will enable yous to understand and brand predictions virtually the time to come of your business.
Lauren recommends the post-obit adjacent steps:
If yous are unsure if this blazon of class is for you I would recommend reaching out to a professor currently teaching courses aligned with a business analytics small-scale and inquire if y'all could shadow a form prior to committing. Professor's aren't required to let a student practise this, only from my experience in undergrad the professors were more than willing to permit me observe and ask questions.
